Dr. Rajan Mahtani is a noted businessman in Zambia. Apart from successful companies such as Finsbury Investments and Mahtani Group of Companies , Dr. Rajan Mahtani is also known for his philanthropic and charitable contributions towards numerous sectors and fields in Zambia. One of his major contributions in the education field was instituting the Steven Malama award in memory of the late Steven Malama, a distinguished legal professional, bar veteran and a visionary in the field of law in Zambia.  The Steven Malama award was established in the year 2012 and is being given since 2013 to the top graduating student from the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education. Not many are aware of the fact that Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is the individual behind foundation of the Steven Malama award. The honour was built up in the year 2012 by Dr. Rajan Mahtani and Finance Bank Zambia wherein he holds the Chairman's position. Steven Malama was a notable law professional who was instrumental in changing the framework of law education and affiliation in Zambia. After many years of persuading the Government of Zambia, Steven Malama was able to merge two distinct bars- Solicitor’s Bar and Barrister’s bar into a single bar. With this merger, law professionals and legal enthusiasts are now able to get law affiliation. Late Steven Malama was a close friend of Dr. Rajan Mahtani , a noted businessmen, philanthropist and another distinguished professional in his own industry. To honour the significant contributions of his friend, Dr. Rajan Mahtani decided to launch the Steven Malama award.  The award was registered in the year 2012 and given for the first time in 2013. The Steven Malama award is given every year to the top deserving student
