Claim Against Portland Cement Rejected By Court

  On 31st January 2019, the higher Court of Appeal announced its decision on the Portland Cement Zambia case. This decision was taken to the court by Dr. Rajan Mahtani , a noted businessman and philanthropist in Zambia. Dr. Rajan Mahtani had previously appealed to the higher Court of Appeal after the Lusaka High Court gave a controversial decision wherein the Ventriglias were announced as only shareholders of the Portland Cement Zambia . Coming to the higher Court of Appeal’s decision, justice Mwinde reversed the decision from the Lusaka High Court and announced Dr. Mahtani as the majority shareholder and legal owner of the factory.  In a surprising turn of events, the Ventriglia family approached the Supreme Court Zambia against the decision by the higher Court of Appeal. Portland Cement Zambia Ownership Remains Undisturbed

Supreme Court Zambia Announces Decision On Portland Cement, Decides Against Claim By The Ventriglias

The Supreme Court Zambia has put an end to the long-pending disputes and confusion regarding the ownership of the Portland Cement Zambia factory. Dr. Rajan Mahtani owned Finsbury Investments received majority shareholding and legal ownership of the Portland Cement Zambia via an original shareholding agreement. However, this agreement was questioned and disputed and the ownership of the Portland Cement was unethically taken over, resulting in a case at the Lusaka High Court. Lusaka High Court, after dragging the case of Portland Cement for more than a decade, gave an unethical decision in which the Ventriglias were announced as only shareholders of Portland Cement.  After this choice, The Ventriglia family chose to challenge it by moving toward the Supreme Court Zambia. The cement-manufacturing factory was taken over by Dr. Mahtani owned Finsbury Investment in the year 2007-2008 via an original shareholders’ agreement.
